Did anyone out there spot the Brandon Medical light in Q's lab in
the latest James Bond movie! Nigel Davill is our own version of "Q"
and has just as many innovative gadgets up his sleeve.
Our other big news is the opening of our new design facility. The
new Brandon Medical Design Laboratory was opened in June and was promptly
placed under lock and key to protect our secrets! We might not have
a bomb proof room deep within M.I.6 but we do have new facilities
for the photometric, mechanical, thermal and electrical testing of
medical lighting systems and already have 3 new projects under way.
More work requires more staff.
Even though we like to think we can keep getting more for less by
increasing our efficiency (at least Graeme Hall, our MD does!), we
have bowed to the inevitable and recruited new engineers in the field
of mechanical engineering and aesthetic design.
Brandon Medical is also pleased to announce
another new design award tucked safely under our belts. The Company
has beaten off all-comers to win a national design competition under
the SMART scheme. The result is a substantial financial award to develop
new innovative lighting solutions for healthcare over the next 3 years.
Finally, 2 of our Engineers have been
asked to help write the new CIBSE LG2 lighting guide for medical buildings.
We have already been involved in writing the medical lighting elements
of the international standard IEC601 - further confirmation that we
are being increasingly recognised as the UK’s medical lighting experts.
