Brandon Medical has just reported yet another year of sparkling year end results! The financial highlights include a 24% increase in overall sales, a rebound in export sales orders, 40% reduction in debt and 44% increase in capital investment.
Growth
has come in both the UK and in our export markets. The increases in
Government expenditure in the UK on new PFI hospitals, Procure 21
and LIFT projects have all benefited Brandon. We are very competitive
and our extensive expertise has lead to us being chosen by an increasing
number of clients as their medical lighting supplier.
We are particularly pleased that we have been selected to supply the
full medical lighting schedule for the new Walsgrave Hospital at Coventry.
This was the biggest PFI hospital when it was announced and is the
biggest single lighting contract awarded under PFI so far. We also
won a major contract with the private hospital operator, HCA to replace
the operating theatre lights at The Wellington in London, the single
biggest private sector contract this year.
Major export successes came from Sri Lanka, Singapore, Syria, the
prestigious Bangladesh Rifles Hospital, Slovakia, Ireland and Mexico.
We saw major increases in our market share in each of these countries,
Ireland being the most successful and Mexico being the best new market.
It was great doing business with the Mexican Navy, they even collected
their Galaxy Ultra operating lights by sending their own boat!
All this is on top of major investments into R & D, people and new
equipment. We have invested in new automatic machinery for metal cutting,
surface treatment and quality control. We are particularly pleased
with the Haas multi-axis lathes that enable components to be made
from raw material to finished component in a completely automatic,
single operation. All our manufacturing staff have now received training
in the latest Japanese "Lean Manufacturing" techniques. We all now
know enough Japanese words to tell our sushi from our tapanyaki!
